Frequently Asked Questions
Where should the IQ Carbon be installed?
Follow life-safety best practices: within ~10 ft of sleeping areas, on each level, and near fuel-burning appliances. Mount on the ceiling (≥12″ from walls) or on the wall (≥6″ below the ceiling, above switch height). We’ll finalize placement during your site visit.
Will it work if my system is disarmed?
Yes. The IQ Carbon is monitored 24/7 and can trigger the panel and monitoring center even when disarmed.
How long does it last?
The detector includes an end-of-life feature and should be replaced about 5 years from the date of manufacture. Your panel will display trouble/end-of-life messages. Battery life is typically 3–5 years and is also supervised.
How loud is the alarm, and can I hush it?
It sounds Temporal-4 at ≥85 dBA. Press the hush button to silence temporarily (while conditions are checked); the panel still records and reports the event.
Does this replace smoke detection?
No—this device is for carbon monoxide. Pair it with IQ Smoke detectors for smoke/heat protection. We’ll design a complete life-safety plan for your space.
